California Domestic Violence Education Requirements
Under California Penal Code ยง1203.097, individuals convicted of domestic violence are required to complete a 52-week Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP). However, courts may also order shorter DV awareness education as part of plea agreements, pre-trial diversion, or protective order conditions.
California Penal Code ยง273.5 (Corporal Injury to Spouse/Cohabitant) and ยง243(e)(1) (Domestic Battery) are the most commonly charged DV offenses. Both may include court-ordered DV education as part of sentencing or probation.
Our Domestic Violence Awareness Class provides educational content on the cycle of violence, power and control dynamics, and healthy relationship skills. Note: This is an educational class, not a state-certified 52-week BIP. If your court order specifically requires a BIP, you will need a state-certified provider.

Domestic Violence Restraining Orders may include requirements for DV education as a condition of the order.
California Domestic Violence FAQs
Does California accept online DV classes?
California courts increasingly accept online DV awareness education for cases where a full 52-week BIP is not required. Our program is designed for court-ordered DV education mandates. Confirm with your court or attorney that online completion is accepted for your specific order.
What is the difference between a DV class and a BIP in California?
A DV awareness class is a shorter educational program (4-52 hours) covering violence prevention. A BIP (Batterer's Intervention Program) is a state-certified 52-week program specifically for DV convictions under PC ยง1203.097. Our program satisfies DV education requirements but is not a certified BIP.
How long is a court-ordered DV class in California?
For DV awareness education (not BIP), California judges typically order 4 to 52 hours depending on the offense severity and circumstances. Our program offers all standard hour options.
